ABOUT US

Christ the Messiah Church traced its humble beginnings back in 1957 when a young and passionate 26-year-old pastor John R. Compton and his wife arrived in Jacksonville, Florida with a mission to establish a congregation rooted in the Lord Jesus Christ. Seven months later, with 60 new members, the church was formally organized. It purchased its present campus, which was a fern farm owned by a local family in the neighborhood. There were two other very notable Pastors who shepherded CMC during very rough times. Rev. Gerald Scheck led the congregation for 19 years and Rev. Walter R. Enquist cared for the flock for 16 years.

The church went through many challenges under different pastoral leaderships, but its core conviction of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the Written Eternal Word of God, the Bible, remained unchanged.

JESUS CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF CMC

For all things in heaven and on earth were created in him—all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers—all things were created through him and for him. – Col. 1:16

He himself is before all things, and all things are held together in him – Col. 1:17

He is the head of the body, the church, as well as the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he himself may become first in all things. – Col. 1:18
